Still Life is a newer series that stems from the rich tradition of the still life in the visual arts. In the course of my exploration I have had the good fortune to be introduced to the images of Karl Blossfeldt and Charles Jones, both of whom were active approximately 100 years ago. I have been moved to explore this genre following many years working in varied natural habitats including interacting on a macro photography level. My shift to a more formalized and intimate study of the botanical world seems a natural next step. In the Still Life series I further examine texture, patterns, form and colour in the plant kingdom and continue my long-term interest in decay and change in our world, as a part of the cycle of life. In studying my various subjects the animistic belief that animate and inanimate objects possess a spiritual essence comes to mind. As I delve deeper into this subject the question arises: In these apparently inanimate objects, is there still, life? * All images are photographed on slide film using only natural light.
